For this painting, I placed a piece of glass over top of a white surface and then raised the image to almost eye level. What intrigued me was how the value of the reflection was actually higher than the value of the shaded side of the pear because of the white surface underneath. Lighter, and greyed down. Generally, reflections are darker than what they are reflecting. Another valuable reason to paint from life...your eyes don't lie! It's all about PAINTING WHAT YOU SEE INSTEAD OF WHAT YOU THINK YOU SEE!

Pears on glass 6X8" oil on linen
