Red Grapes, oil on linen, 6X6"

These grapes were really interesting to paint.  Once again, I took my best shot at painting light shining through something, this time grapes.  In addition to translucence, there was also reflected light, highlight, cast shadows, etc to deal with.  This stuff is a constant source of amusement for me. It sure hones my observation skills when painting this stuff from life.  The human eye sees a great deal more than a camera lens does.  To prove it to yourself try painting a subject from life, then try painting it from a photo of the still life once you have it set up.  You'll be amazed at the difference in the information you have to work with.  Your eye will see far more subtle shifts in color and tone than your camera will.
