Painting from the Model

"Matt from Australia"  head study, 12 X 16"

The painting above of Matt was done during my week of painting with the girls;  it was about a two hour session.

As mentioned in my previous post,  I will be teaching a workshop on painting from the model.  The dates will be  Feb 24-27th.  You can see the course description and details under the workshop section on the right side of my blog page.  I am really keen on doing this workshop as I believe it will be a very effective learning experience for the students.  Like daily painting, the process demands your best attention and focus.  It's Zen like, really.  Moving from shape to shape, tone to tone, color to color - and it's all timed.   There is no opportunity for fussing, just working to get in the broad strokes.  On that note, I feel a quote coming on:

"The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing" - Steven Covey

I've had the privilege of working with some wonderful figurative painters down in the States over the last two years, and look forward to sharing what I have gleaned from them.

I still have a couple of spots left in my figurative workshop - come join me at my home studio for four days of painting.  I promise to be gentle ;) .

Best,
Gaye
