Spring Greens, oil on canvas, 8X10"
This painting was a surprise to me. It was one of those scenes with so much information, I stood there a little stymied as to where to start. My good painting buddy, Liz Wiltzen (click on Liz's blogspot with the link on the right) and I have been talking a lot about process with plein air painting. It has really been grist for the mill. I just kept reminding myself about what the "why" of this piece. I loved the spring greens against the dark background conifers and the violet-blue mountains. It was all about color and pattern. With that in mind, I painted the colors and patterns, leaving out whatever extraneous information I could. It was one of those happy little "fall off the brush" paintings. I love it when that happens. It makes up for the other paintings that you end up having to wrestle to the ground.
