"Irish Spring" oil on panel, 8X10"
I have been away painting for a month and just recently returned. I realized that this is the longest I have ever gone without touching base through my blog, but I was so immersed in the painting process and soaking up the environment that I did not get to my computer often. I was in Croatia for a couple of weeks, and then Ireland, and had a really great adventure.
Over the next several weeks, I shall shoot you some images of my field sketches along with some commentaries around the experience of painting them.
This is the first piece, painted in Ireland. It was painted in the gentler part of Ireland, where the wind didn't howl all day....but I have paintings and stories around the wild and wooly parts of Ireland for an upcoming post. No painting of Ireland seemed quite complete without the wooly little sheep - which are tough to paint with a big brush on a small panel. These ones didn't turn out too badly, but I know they would get better with practice. Simplification and attention to edges were key.
Happy painting!
